Things That Make you Say....WOW.

Ok, so I'm watching TV this morning...something that I never do! The Today Show featured a professional dance today who had been criticized after a performance for her weight.  Not much into the world of ballet but was thinking that the story would be about her being too skinny....but NO, it was actually because her shape was too "womanly". What is this world coming to? First of all, this woman was incredibly thin! Secondly, since when did being a woman or looking like one become a bad thing? I was all geared up to make some monogrammed gifts this morning...but now I'm just plain appalled and not in the mood to create! Nothing a little blogging can't cure though...back to work now!  I realize that the world of professional dancers is a lot different than us regular folks...but this interview was an eye opener. If this is "womanly" then I must be obese! Ugh!

That is the question!  It's that time of year again...gifts galore!  Is re-gifting a practice that you participate in, does someone always get you a gift that makes you think "what were you thinking"?  You likely do, what does one do with that gift? Many will pass it along to someone else. Sometimes said people make sure it's appropriate to the recipient, others....not so much. Some simply donate or maybe even throw away.

Oh The Royal Wedding!!

Surely you've heard the news...Prince William will be married soon & we will all get to watch yet another elaborate, beautiful wedding.  Everything will be "just so"...and we are anticipating the sight! Who doesn't love a beautiful wedding, right?  So now we're in wedding mode....

Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner

We're getting hungry already...just reading that title! What does your Thanksgiving turkey dinner consist of? Or is your tradition something other than turkey? Tradition

With Halloween rapidly approaching, our mouths are already watering here thinking here at MonogrammedEverything of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions...we're wondering what yours are?  Of course we do the normal Thanksgiving supper: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberries etc...oh wow, I'm hungry.  But what else says Thanksgiving to you? Our favorite Thanksgiving traditions don't center solely on food, believe it or not.  Yes, the dinner and mmmm deserts are a definite fav but the time with family, especially those that we don't get to see often is the best part of Thanksgiving, by far! What do we like to do with this family that we love so much? Well....watching FOOTBALL is a must, of course!  Later in the evening, someone always has a fun board game we can get all competitive with...all in good fun of course (unless you lose!!) ;)

9 Days and Counting...

Today is Labor Day in the United States and Canada. What exactly is Labor Day? Most know that Labor Day is an annual holiday observed on the first Monday in September to celebrate the economic and social achievements of laborers, which IS MOST OF US!!

We bet you don't know the history of Labor Day though?!? In 1882, the idea of a Labor Day was first proposed in New York City and was first celebrated by that union in 1884. At that time, the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday” on that date. With the growth of labor organizations, the idea spread and it became a federal holiday in 1894. On June 28 of 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations,” followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. The holiday is often regarded as a day of rest and parties. In terms of US sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons. NCAA teams usually play their first games the week before Labor Day, with the NFL traditionally playing their first game the Thursday following Labor Day.

The Best Birthday Party Ideas!

My little guy just turned 5 and as I was party shopping for the 5th time, I realized something. You know those treat bags that you provide to the kiddos who attend? They are usually made of plastic, correspond with the cake character and are filled with junk? Well, when we are the recipients of these, I typically try to hide or throw the bag and the contents away as soon as little bits will have forgotten about it, HA! So why then, why, do parents spend SEVERAL dollars on these bags? They make no impression, there is no use gotten out of them. So for this party I set out to change this practice. I did a lot of searching but the results were amazing. Did you know that you can find small tote bags or pencil boxes that can be PERSONALIZED with the attendees names??? Now, I know what you’re thinking; those must be crazy expensive. They are in fact NOT. Pooltime Anyone?

Ok so I live in the midwest, St. Louis to be exact....and we are in the midst of what can best be defined as a heatWAVE! Heat index of atleast 100 for I don't know how many days now....it is so miserable.
