I was inspired yesterday by a mom who ordered several embroidered headbands yesterday for her daughters for...CHRISTMAS!! Holy cow, I'm so jealous of her head start, way to go Mom in Missouri!! And for just $5 a band she has a couple little gifts sure to make her daughters smile. Can't beat that! I'm a big fan of presents that are really useful, that you would be buying anyway. Adding a name or monogram to those items just gives them that special touch that makes it cool to give them as a gift! Embroidered headbands are a prime example of a gift such as that.

Wow, it's been WAY too long since I blogged!! I've been a busy girl though, definitely still stamping as much as I can with a monogram but also planning for our new addition...which we found out last week will be...ANOTHER BOY!! So excited to start monogramming tiny blue things! Haven't 100% chosen a name yet but once we do, I'll be rocking out some embroidered baby gifts to...MYSELF! Just a few items of interest so far...

I'm thoroughly enjoying beach week and wanted to share some pics with you!! The kids are having an absolute blast and so are the hubs and I. We have only 2 more days to go....sigh. I think our swimming, flipping, diving etc skills have improved two-fold since our arrival in paradise 5 days ago. Well, we're assisted quite a bit by Daddy and Grandpa. Mommy has been lounging on her monogrammed beach towel quite a bit!

As ashamed as I am to say this, though we are right on the beach, we have been only 1 day. The kids are terrified of jellyfish and there is no shortage of them this year! Ugh!

Another fab thing about vaca? Two date nights with the hubs in 1 week! You've gotta love that :)

Am I the only person who just loves 4th of July?! I'm making some super adorable patriotic tutus tomorrow...pics to follow! Has me thinking of that BBQ and day of fun...let the planning begin! GRILLED SALMON SKEWERS!!

If you can find (or grow) them, use sturdy rosemary branches, stripped of leaves, as skewers for these Italian salmon kebabs; they’ll add a subtle, smoky flavor that hints of pine. Oil your grill well to prevent sticking, don’t move the kebabs around unnecessarily and keep a close eye on the fire to avoid flare-ups.

Prep Time:	30 minutes
Ready in:	30 minutes
Yield:	4 servings, 2 skewers each
Ease of Prep:	Easy

Recipe Ingredients
	2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary
	2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
	2 cloves garlic , minced
	1 teaspoon freshly grated lemon zest
	1 teaspoon lemon juice
	1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
	1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
	1 pound center-cut salmon fillet , skinned (see Tip) and cut into 1-inch cubes
	1 pint cherry tomatoes

Recipe Directions

Preheat grill to medium-high.
Combine rosemary, oil, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Add salmon; toss to coat. Alternating the salmon and tomatoes, divide among eight 12-inch skewers.
Oil the grill rack. Grill the skewers, carefully turning once, until the salmon is cooked through, 4 to 6 minutes total. Serve immediately.

Prepare the skewers (Step 2), cover and refrigerate for up to 8 hours. Proceed with grilling (Steps 1 & 3) when ready to serve.

In Prayers for Joplin, MO...

We blog today not about anything related to monogrammed gifts...we blog today in prayer for a small town in our home state of Missouri-Joplin. They were hit by a massive tornado yesterday evening and as of this moment 89 people have been confirmed dead. The main area of town has been completely destroyed: homes, businesses, cars and lives. Lost. The town's hospital was seriously damaged as were fire stations...this is I'm sure making everything worse. Our thoughts and prayers here at MonogrammedEverything.com are with those affected by this horrible storm. Here are just a few shots of complete devastation...

"Watching the Superbowl"

Game was on, people over. Having a blast...but really caring that much about the game? Not that much...totally having a blast admiring my spread though...my fav item today?? Not monogrammed gifts, for once LOL

Ingredients

3 tablespoons Butter

1 (10 oz) package marshmallows (I prefer the small ones but you can use large)
5 cups Cocoa Rice Krispie cereal
White frosting

Directions
In microwave proof bowl, melt butter. Add marshmallows, microwave until melted. I would recommend setting microwave for 1 minute increments. Test marshmallows after each minute. Don't scorch them!! Grease a large bowl with butter-otherwise the mixture will stick to the sides. Add cocoa krispies. Pour butter/marshmallow mixture over the top of the rice cereal. Stir completely & let cool slightly. Use buttered hands to shape the rice krispie mixture into mini footballs. Make the footballs about 3" long. This makes 16-24 depending on how large you make them.

Decorate each football by piping white icing on them for stitches and strings. I use a small Ziploc bag as an icing piping bag. To do this, you fill the bottom of the bag with the icing. Snip a small hole in the bottom corner and squeeze the icing out of this hole. Easy and less mess.

Let It Snow!

Totally thought we were done with Christmas tunes but this seems appropriate...9 more inches yesterday, 2 expected tonight and another "winter storm" coming on Sunday!! The snowfall this winter is INSANE! We're atleast thinking we want to look cute in the midst of all of this horrible weather, which is why our cozy scarves are on major sale through the next week! That's right, a monogrammed cozy scarf with matching gloves for next to nothing. Whatta deal!

There's no reason why below zero temps have to equal frumpy unattractive apparel! These cozy scarves are so warm, so soft and even better...SO CUTE! Loving them! Super excited to march out the monogrammed beach towels and tote bags but for now, it is what it is. WINTER. COLD. SNOWY.

Organizing Life!!

Well, one of my resolutions that I kept to myself was to REALLY declutter, reorganize, deep clean etc. I won't lie and pretend that I have done all of that but I've been trying and succeeding here and there along the way. I'll tell you: the house feels so much more relaxed, I feel more relaxed. Being organized is the thing that makes me feel the best, but for some reason is the absolute hardest to do. As I typed that I realized that many of the things that feel best to me are difficult to do! WHY is that?!?! I digress...

So, how did I finally do it? Well, I've started on very small spaces. The kids toy room & family room were first, for obvious reasons-hmmm, Christmas and baby son's birthday on the 26th! That was a necessity so out came some nifty new containers that surprisingly made every one smile! Check them out!

Next came the shoe, coat "nook". We unfortunately do not have a mud room so there's a little nook in the kitchen, just off the garage that is generally where all of these things land. Prior to the re-org, they landed over kitchen chairs. Yuck! We now have a happy home for them called hooks...still looking for shoe holder that is not an eye sore!

And OH CLOSETS...honestly that was just a matter of DONATING the zillions of clothes that we no longer wear. Moving right along to the bathrooms, these totes made sense of the madness under the sink. I HEART THEM!

Resolution Update!!

Yay! Happy to say, I'm on a much better road with the resolution...sort of :) Playing more-CHECK. Procrastinating less-Almost Check. Making some super cute monogrammed gifts-CHECK!!! So yesterday, we rolled out our new quilted monogram totes!! Yes, I ditched the Coach bag for this tote...and life since has been amazing. I don't need to clean out my purse every day anymore, unless of course I want to. I don't need to pack a supplemental bag when we leave...I have room for it ALL in this one bag. Wow, it's been almost a month since our last post! Between the holiday rush and family commitments, blogging kind of fell to the wayside. We've missed you! So.....it's New Years and of course that means promises, resolutions, striving for better habits. What are yours or do you partake in the promising practices?

Lose weight, work out, eat healthy, stop using bad words? Those are obviously the most common...are you doing something more creative? Why do we do these said resolutions? What is the meaning? Here's an excerpt about the history of New Year's resolutions; the celebration of passing of time leads us to become somewhat introspective. It's good for the soul...how can you be your best self this year?

The History of New Year's Resolutions
The tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar.
With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.
The New Year has not always begun on January 1, and it doesn't begin on that date everywhere today. It begins on that date only for cultures that use a 365-day solar calendar. January 1 became the beginning of the New Year in 46 B.C., when Julius Caesar developed a calendar that would more accurately reflect the seasons than previous calendars had.
The Romans named the first month of the year after Janus, the god of beginnings and the guardian of doors and entrances. He was always depicted with two faces, one on the front of his head and one on the back. Thus he could look backward and forward at the same time. Ok, so I'm watching TV this morning...something that I never do! The Today Show featured a professional dance today who had been criticized after a performance for her weight. Not much into the world of ballet but was thinking that the story would be about her being too skinny....but NO, it was actually because her shape was too "womanly". What is this world coming to? First of all, this woman was incredibly thin! Secondly, since when did being a woman or looking like one become a bad thing? I was all geared up to make some monogrammed gifts this morning...but now I'm just plain appalled and not in the mood to create! Nothing a little blogging can't cure though...back to work now! I realize that the world of professional dancers is a lot different than us regular folks...but this interview was an eye opener. If this is "womanly" then I must be obese! Ugh!

We're getting hungry already...just reading that title! What does your Thanksgiving turkey dinner consist of? Or is your tradition something other than turkey? We'd love to hear about it! MonogrammedEverything is getting super excited for the sights, smells and sounds of Thanksgiving in just a few short weeks! We consider ourselves pretty "traditional" around here but are always open to hearing other, more creative ideas for the Thanksgiving turkey dinner at your house; do you guys deep fry, bake, roast? With Halloween rapidly approaching, our mouths are already watering here thinking here at MonogrammedEverything of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions...we're wondering what yours are? Of course we do the normal Thanksgiving supper: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberries etc...oh wow, I'm hungry. But what else says Thanksgiving to you? Our favorite Thanksgiving traditions don't center solely on food, believe it or not. Yes, the dinner and mmmm deserts are a definite fav but the time with family, especially those that we don't get to see often is the best part of Thanksgiving, by far! What do we like to do with this family that we love so much? Well....watching FOOTBALL is a must, of course! Later in the evening, someone always has a fun board game we can get all competitive with...all in good fun of course (unless you lose!!) ;)

Have you ever noticed that even the simplest of things become spectacular with the addition of a monogram? Obviously we see the beauty in this every day...but love to point out these instances whenever possible? Today is Labor Day in the United States and Canada. What exactly is Labor Day? Most know that Labor Day is an annual holiday observed on the first Monday in September to celebrate the economic and social achievements of laborers, which IS MOST OF US!!

We bet you don't know the history of Labor Day though?!? In 1882, the idea of a Labor Day was first proposed in New York City and was first celebrated by that union in 1884. At that time, the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a “workingmen’s holiday” on that date. With the growth of labor organizations, the idea spread and it became a federal holiday in 1894. On June 28 of 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday: A street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations,” followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.

We would like to hear stories about what your favorite monogrammed gift is...and why!? I'm sure everyone has received something personalized in their life...please take a sec and tell us what that was?

I can tell you, without a doubt, that mine was a personalized baby blanket that I received for my little guy...he just went off to Kindergarten last week but as I sit here typing this, the blankie is on the couch in the spot he was lounging on this morning. I guess I'm not the only person who cherished that baby blanket! I remember how excited I was to see that little blue baby blanket at my shower...touched that it had my little guys name on it! Made just for him!

The Best Birthday Party Ideas!

My little guy just turned 5 and as I was party shopping for the 5th time, I realized something. You know those treat bags that you provide to the kiddos who attend? They are usually made of plastic, correspond with the cake character and are filled with junk? Well, when we are the recipients of these, I typically try to hide or throw the bag and the contents away as soon as little bits will have forgotten about it, HA! So why then, why, do parents spend SEVERAL dollars on these bags? They make no impression, there is no use gotten out of them. So for this party I set out to change this practice. I did a lot of searching but the results were amazing. Did you know that you can find small tote bags or pencil boxes that can be PERSONALIZED with the attendees names??? Now, I know what you’re thinking; those must be crazy expensive. They are in fact NOT. I spent a little less than $10 and the monogrammed tote bag served as a bag to hold the “projects” we did at the party. Throw some fruit snacks in there if you choose but I did not even do that. Each bag was stuffed only with a picture of little Ryan and a pre-written thank you note from him for coming to his party and making his birthday special. Voila! I just killed two birds with one stone; the thank you notes were complete before the party even ended!! Ahhh it’s the wedding season, I’ve been to 5 already this year and I must say that in this economy especially, wedding gifts are a challenge. Ok so I live in the midwest, St. Louis to be exact....and we are in the midst of what can best be defined as a heatWAVE! Heat index of atleast 100 for I don't know how many days now....it is so miserable. With 3 kids under the age of 7, playing outside is just not an option until late in the evening....so what else do we do? POOL every day until this craziness stops...so we're going through towels like crazy. Yesterday we were all sporting our monogrammed beach towels & boy were they a hit. People stopped me as much as they did when my youngest was a baby to comment on how beautiful he is (well, he really does have that certain little face LOL) but anyway, the towels...holy cow. Everyone wanted them...monogrammed beach towels are something that apparently never go out of style...I love those kinds of items ;) The kiddos like their names on their towels, I of course prefer the classic monogrammed beach towel, initials only please!! Same goes for that tote...and oh how important the tote is. I realized yesterday just how much goes into this bag...its insane.
